Emails from Fans: I just wanted to let you know how thrilled my son was to have had the opportunity to attend last Saturday's 99 Speedway race and see two cars racing for autism. My husband and son were fortunate enough to chat with those involved with Race for Autism and Autism Speaks. Our 25 year old son, Todd, faces the challenges of being on the autism spectrum. However, those challenges seem to be diminished when he is participating in the activities he loves. Watching car races at the 99 Speedway was an activity that he absolutely loved. We are so delighted that the track is open again and that people like you are involved in the races. Sue
Hello, My name is Michelle. I knew Carlos from my ex way back in the day. I was just a kid then. Carlos met my son Nick last summer. He seems to always talk about the race he went to with his dad off and on. So I decided today to look up the 51fifty race team, and could not believe that he raced for Autism. I literally screamed for Nick and asked him if he knew. He just looked at me, and said No. I told him you could have told him about your little brother Charlie. My son Charlie has a different level of Autism. He has a genetic disorder known as TSC Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. He has innumerable brain tumors, which cause him to have low end Autism. He last summer underwent multiple brain surgeries to try and slow down his seizures. The strange thing is Charlie goes to Shelby School, I drive by that garage in Livingston every week and never thought anything of it. Until now. To be honest I did not even know that Merced had something for Autism. Now... I have a place that Charlie can be a part of. Charlie is also a Make A Wish recipient. He was part of two homecoming parades in Fresno, Clovis East and Buchannan High. The students raised money for Charlie's with to come true. I just had to tell Charlie's story. Having Charlie I always feel like I have to do more. We live in Hilmar, nad I really do not know anyone else who has someone like Charlie. I can say that I am glad that Nick knows now what kind of a team he got to meet. It will mean more to him. Thanks, Michelle |
